5:15p Character crushes I was thinking today about authors who crush on their characters, and authors who don't (which has nothing to do with quality of characterisation. This is not that kind of post). I crush on other people's characters all the time, but not my own. I couldn't spend ten minutes in a room with Guardian's romantic lead (even though he is a very brave boy, with some very serious problems) because I would need to SHAKE him. Also, he is (more or less) seventeen. Bold the ones you've read, italicize the ones you've partially read. ( The BBC claims that the average person has read only 6 of these. ) 48 read, 15 partially read It's a pity I dislike Dickens so much, or I'd have a way better score... maybe I'll give him another shot, now that I'm older (you never know) Edit: I'm reading A Thousand Splendid Suns, except in french. Where it becomes both "Mille Soleils Splendides" and barely comprehensible - this is going to take me the whole summer.

Classics Karen Likes: Pride and Prejudice Emma Northanger Abbey A Tale of Two Cities The Three Musketeers Les Miserables The Iliad The Odyssey The Frogs Lysistrata Most of Shakespeare's plays, except Titus Andronicus and A Winter's Tale, and the ones no one has read like King John because I also haven't read them. Classics Karen Doesn't Like: Mansfield Park Juvenal's Satires, the ass Everything else Dickens wrote The entire catalogue of the modernist novel ETA: Jane Eyre Wuthering Heights It seems to be included on the Likes list, one should include 1) humour and/or 2) swordfights, yo. ETA 2: I forgot a MAJOR exception, which is Euripides' The Trojan Woman. No swordfights, no humour, complete downer of a story complete with child murder and female slavery and yet I love it the most. Also! I got to make the donation to the Alannah and Madline Foundation! Behind the cut is proof of the collected donation. A number of people redeemed their pledges by donating separately, so the total of all donations was actually $1 381. 5:53p where did the day goooooooo~~~~~ was supposed to work on portfolio today... i woke up at 1:30 instead and downloaded a bunch of fonts XD mom's sorta colleague suggested i use some colours in my portfolio to show off my design skills and tie back to my art-centred high school education but i'm not sure how i feel about that advice. i didn't use much colour because my designs all have different colour schemes and shouldn't that be what stands out the most? i guess if i do the right, i should be able to use lots of different colours (or at least more than one colour XD) to make my portfolio more interesting? i think i should feel a little insulted that my content isn't exciting enough to make up for my not colourful portfolio though XD i have no idea how i want to set up my new portfolio (the lack of work i want to show is also depressing) but i do want to use really bright colours and contrast it with stark black text XD i'm worried it'll overpower my design work since a lot of them are kinda pale... though not really... hmmm, maybe i will experiment with bright and loud instead of my pale and sorta delicate layout? XD i wonder if there's a way to work my photos in as well XD other than digging out some of my books and stuff to take product shots of them~ i hate job hunting, if i didn't hate my current job so much i mostly wouldn't even bother >< (that and my mom harassing me XD) i am sad it is impossible to find where all the doujinshika find that skinny, slightly old looking font they use in doujins >< i really like it, even if it's only in japanese i'll still want to get it~~~~ current mood: failing at working current music: put us back together right
